Bone mineral densitometry (BMD), or shortly BMD, is a common method for measuring the amount of bone density in the body. In this method, the amount of mineral content in the bone is measured per cubic centimeter, providing a relative measure of bone mineral content but not the actual bone density. Its clinical application is to indirectly measure the amount of bone porosity in a patient.
